Wyoming State Treasurer Mark Gordon has launched a campaign to continue holding that office. During a campaign stop in Cheyenne Tuesday, Gordon, a Republican, said he is pleased with the accomplishments of the Treasurer's office, but believes there is more work to do. Gordon said the state needs to be "more sophisticated about how we help businesses get established in the state."

He added that Wyoming is the 57th largest sovereign wealth fund in the world, which gives the state a "global footprint."  Gordon said the state can start to impact not only the way the state is run, but how sovereign wealth funds are deployed. He also said the state is large enough now that it can attract very large businesses to the state.

Gordon has been treasurer since Gov. Matt Mead appointed him in November 2012 to replace Treasurer Joe Meyer, who died of lung cancer. The treasurer's office manages and invests more than $17 billion in state money.
