A Laramie resident is behind bars for allegedly strangling a household member.

The Laramie Police Department says 29-year-old Desmond J. Vasquez faces one felony charge of strangulation of a household member.  If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

Police say in a press release that Vasquez was arrested shortly after noon on Saturday.  According to the release, an unidentified female called 911 to report that a domestic dispute was taking place.

No further information about the incident has been released.

Wyoming Statute 6-2-509 says a person is guilty of strangulation of a household member if they intentionally and knowingly or recklessly cause or attempt to cause bodily injury to a household member by impeding the normal breathing or circulation of blood by applying pressure on the person's throat or neck, or by blocking the nose and mouth of the household member.
