Meteorologist Don Day has taken a look at the effects of a strong El Nino and come up with a long term forecast for the United States, concentrating on the Rocky Mountain and Plains states.

With the strongest El Nino since 1997 and 1998, The southern states have the best chances of moisture and colder weather in the typical winter months while the northwest and some of the plains states looking at a milder and drier winter.

There are a few exceptions and they are the month of October, which could be colder and snowy, and the spring which is expected to bring cooler temps and a good shot of moisture to the Rocky Mountains.
