Laramie’s Joe Erikson Receives A Chance With a Select Team

Laramie 16-year old veteran hockey player Joe Erikson was recently chosen to play with a select hockey program in South Dakota.

Erikson is playing with the Sioux Falls Junior Stampede U16 AAA squad. It’s a Tier 1 teams that competes nationally against some of the best U16 hockey teams in the United States.

At the age of four, Erikson began playing hockey on his backyard rink and at the local ice arena. He has played for Laramie Amateur Hockey Club (LAHC) as well as Team Wyoming select squads that participated in action regionally and nationally. Joe has been chosen for All-State honors in Wyoming and for state and regional USA Hockey development camps. In 2014, Erikson took part in the USA Hockey National Development Camp.

Currently attending Roosevelt High School, Erikson is being hosted or “billeted” by the Matthews family in Sioux Falls, SD.

The Laramie Amateur Hockey Club (LAHC) made the announcement in a press release.

Also, Laramie native and former Division 1 hockey player Hannah Westbrook is conducting a two-day preseason power-skating clinic Sept. 15 and 16. The City of Laramie will also host a Free Ice Day on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Laramie Ice and Events Center. Activities will include Public Skate, Learn to Skate, Curling, Broomball, Speed Skating and Stick and Puck. Entry for public skate is free for all Albany County residents. Regular skate rental fees will apply.
