Three school records and a pair of top three finishes highlighted the Laramie High School indoor track teams performance at last weekend’s Simplot Games.

The 4X400 meter relay team was just leaned out at the tape by Syracuse, UT. Laramie’s time was 3:24.03, which was 0.18 seconds behind. The Plainsmen broke the old school record by over four seconds in the event.

Another top performance came from senior McCade Johnson, who placed third in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.27 seconds.

The Lady Plainsmen 4X400 meter relay just missed the podium by placing seventh. Their time was 4:06.71 and good for a new school record. The old mark was 4:09.69.

Another school record fell in the women’s 1600 meters, as freshman Emmy Johnson set the new time at 5:17.90.

The final notable finish came from the Laramie girls in the 4x800 meter relay. They ran their fastest time of the season 10:14.99 and placed 12th.

Laramie High School indoor track and field will close out their regular season Friday by hosting the Wyoming Open indoor track meet at War Memorial Fieldhouse on the UW campus. Action starts at 10 a.m.

Alpine Skiing

Laramie competed at the Natrona Invite last weekend at Hogadon Ski Area on Casper Mountain. Both teams finished in last place out of the six teams competing.

Neither team scored a point during Friday’s slalom competition.

The Lady Plainsmen bounced back with 15 points Saturday during giant slalom racing. Junior Lena Weinstein led the way in eighth place. The Plainsmen failed to score a point again.

Jackson swept both team titles.

This was the final tune-up before the Alpine Skiing State Championships in Jackson on March 3 and 4.

Swimming and Diving

At the last chance qualifying meet in Cheyenne last Friday, the Laramie Plainsmen added a pair of new state qualifiers.

Freshman Trenton Hamel made the mark in diving, while junior Zach Hodson got the time in the 50 freestyle.

Laramie has 14 swimmers and divers qualified for the state championships Thursday and Friday, Feb. 23 and 24 in Gillette.
