It was a long, painful season for Wyoming football fans. In spite of the Pokes' record on the field, Laramie still ranks among the best small towns for football fans.

Wallet Hub recently released a study ranking "2016's Best Cities For Football Fans". Based on the proximity to a professional or college football team, the performance of the team, the cost to attend a game and the engagement level of fans, Laramie finished 187th nationwide.

That doesn't sound impressive until you consider that Fort Collins, Colorado, ranked 223rd. The study suggests Greeley, Colorado, which finished 202nd, even has better fans than Fort Collins.

Denver was ranked as the sixth best city for football fans, trailing only East Lansing, Michigan, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Clemson, South Carolina and Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Kingston, Rhode Island finished last in the study. New Britain, Connecticut, East Hartford, Connecticut, Ogden, Utah and Pine Bluffs, Arkansas round out the five worst cities for football fans.
