A pair of wild, high-scoring games went Laramie’s way Tuesday night at Cowboy Field. The Rangers beat Idaho Falls, ID in a pair of one-run games.

Laramie got two walk-off singles from Matt Smith and Caleb Eaton in the sweep. Smith’s line drive in the seventh inning won the opener 16-15, while Eaton dropped a single down the right field line for a 17-16 victory in the nightcap. Eaton’s heroics came in the eighth inning.

Rangers’ manager Brandon Ruckman went exclusively with his younger players and kept seniors Blake Moore, David Coulthard and Reid Baty on the bench for the twin bill.

“I wanted the seniors to be the back-up role and let the young kids find their way. You know it’s tough cause you’re down runs, and it’s very easy to put your seniors in, but they did their support role, and the kids came back, and I was proud of ‘em.”

The two games featured 33 walks, 12 hit batters and 20 errors between the teams.

Laramie kept their winning streak alive with another doubleheader sweep on the road at Rawlins Wednesday night.

The Rangers won the first game 13-2 in five innings. They took the nightcap 13-4.

Reid Baty had three hits and drove in four runs in game one. Eaton and Logan Pickard also added three hits apiece. Laramie took control with a five-run third inning. David Coulthard was the winning pitcher. He threw only 62 pitches. Coulthard allowed two unearned runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

In game two, a five-run fourth inning put the Rangers in front for good. Blake Moore led the offense with two hits and two RBI’s. Beau Eckhardt worked 4-and-two-thirds on the mound for the win.

Laramie has won five straight and is 14-11 on the season. They head to Alliance, NE for tournament play Saturday and Sunday. They will face Alliance Saturday at 8 p.m. followed by two games Sunday. The first one is at 12:30 p.m. against Chadron, NE, and then they’ll face Bridgeport, NE at 3 p.m.
