Year two of the Chuck Syverson era starts tonight. The 2014 Laramie Plainsmen football season begins against the 4th-ranked Broncs in Sheridan.

Laramie finished 2013 at 3-7 and with a loss to Sheridan in the first round of the 4A playoffs. They return 13 lettermen, six starters on offense and five on defense. That includes second team All-State defensive lineman, senior Danny Bradfield.

After establishing a base a year ago, Laramie head coach Chuck Syverson says our theme this year is 'Next Step.'

"We're looking at taking the next step; starting to knock off some of those teams that were above us last year. We made some adjustments in the off-season with our scheme to kind of combat some of what some teams have been doing against us, that first year."

As for tweaking the schemes, Syverson said they have to do a better job in the run game, so look for more there. Plus, they've switched their base defense in order to handle the spread offenses they face from most opponents.

After ending last year in Sheridan in the playoffs, it's back to Homer Scott Field tonight.

Syverson said it's a typical Bronc team because they don't change a whole lot.

"They just keep plugging new guys in, and they've got a pretty good system and program going up there; so we have a pretty good idea of what they're going to be doing... So, I think we'll be ready for 'em."

Laramie Plainsmen football will be on KOWB (AM 1290) and online, here.

David Settle and VerDon Hoopes are returning to call all the action this season. Today's broadcast from Sheridan will start at 4:30 p.m.
