22-year-old Casey Hoehn, of Laramie, died following a three-car-crash on US Highway 287, Monday.

According to an official release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Hoehn was riding as a passenger in a 2004 Dodge Neon in the southbound lane of highway 287, almost a mile from the Colorado border.  Wyoming Highway Patrol officials say that it’s possible, at this point, that while negotiating a curve, the Neon began hydro-planing, crossed into the oncoming lane, and collided with a 2006 Volvo truck tractor.  The release goes on to say that Hoehn was ejected from the vehicle during the collision.

The collision caused the Volvo truck tractor to veer into the southbound lane of travel where it was struck by a third vehicle, a 2008 Sierra pick up.  Both the Volvo and the Sierra came to rest in a borrow ditch.

Hoehn was declared dead at the scene.  The driver of the Neon, as well as the driver and the lone passenger in the Sierra were hospitalized .   The driver of the Volvo truck tractor was not listed as hospitalized on the official  release.

The release goes on to say that “Troopers investigating this crash believe speed too fast for existing conditions is a contributing factor.”

The crash caused the temporary closure of both north and southbound lanes of US 287 from Laramie to Fort Collins for approximately 2 hours, Monday.
