Laramie Little League Advances to District 2 Championship

On Thursday in Gillette, the Laramie Little League All-Star team defeated Newcastle 10-0 in four innings to advance to the District 2 Championship, and qualify for a berth in the Wyoming State Tournament.

Just a day after a 14-run offensive explosion, Laramie was scoreless until the third inning, when they erupted. The local team brought 12 hitters to the plate in the inning, connecting for six hits and 8 runs, putting the contest away.

Newcastle was demoralized after the inning and never threatened, however they never threatened offensivelybefore that either because they were neutralized by Laramie pitcher Albert Steiner. In four innings on the mound, Steiner struck out 10 (9 swinging) and allowed only three base runners.

Coming back in the top of the fourth, Laramie led off with three straight hits from Steiner, Nathan Burman and Reid Baty and went on to plate the necessary runs to reach ten in the game. Newcastle went down in order in the bottom half and the celebration began for the Laramie squad who realized they had qualified for next week’s state tournament, and with the qualification, had a chance for a seventh consecutive state championship.

Whether or not Laramie wins another state title is yet to be seen, but they will first seek the District 2 Championship with a 3 p.m. game Friday against Gillette. Coverage from KOWB will be online only and will begin at 2:55 p.m. Those interested in listening to the stream can click here.
