It was a big weekend full of great results for Laramie High School cross country, swimming and diving and volleyball.

All three programs produced wins in either a dual or invitational format.

Lady Plainsmen Volleyball

The Lady Plainsmen went to Rock Springs last Saturday and swept the Lady Tigers, 3-0. Scores of the match were 25-12, 25-21 and 26-24.

Head coach Becky Stewart said, “Rock Springs was a really, really good, just solid match for us. We stayed in control pretty much the whole time… took care of business in three, so I was really, really happy with ‘em.”

It was the fifth victory in the last eight matches. Laramie improved to 9-13 on the season.

They take on top-ranked East in Cheyenne Tuesday. The varsity match is set for a 6 p.m. start.

Lady Plainsmen Swimming & Diving

Laramie came through with three dual wins in three days last week to improve to 11-2-1 on the season.

In Casper last Thursday, LHS topped Kelly Walsh by a final score of 102-82. The won six of the 12 events.

Friday and Saturday, Laramie was at home and came away with wins over Rock Springs and Green River. The Lady Plainsmen defeated the Tigers 99-81 with eight event victories.  Freshman Tayiah Graves qualified for state in the 100 backstroke. On senior day against Green River, Laramie topped the Wolves 97-to-80, sending their seniors out on a high note. For a second straight meet, LHS won eight events led by Maggie Clerkin’s victories in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Junior Madison Dale qualified for state in the 100 breaststroke.

Laramie has 23 state qualifiers this season. The swim a dual meet at Cheyenne East Tuesday at 5 p.m.

LHS Cross Country

The Laramie Plainsmen continued their successful season with a victory at the 22nd annual Thornton High School Cross Country Invitational last Friday.

Senior Chris Henry won the boys 5K race by tying the course record. His time was 15:35. He led the Plainsmen, whose top seven runners all ended up in the top 21. Sophomore Albert Steiner came in 10th. LHS topped the field of 32 teams with 56 points. Arvada West was second with 69.

The Lady Plainsmen came in third place out of 29 teams in the girls’ varsity field. They scored 147 points and were behind Fairview, CO and Cheyenne Central. Junior Maria Smith-Lopez finished 11th and Allison McElwee ended up 19th.

Laramie’s cross country teams have this weekend off.
