Laramie gave up just 14 points in the second half to beat Rock Springs 58-44 on the second day of the McDonald's Invitational in Cheyenne. LHS was down 30-22 at halftime, but buckled down on defense to move to 2-0 on the young season under new head coach Chuck Kern.

Sam Feldman, who scored a game-high 21 points, said effort was the difference between Laramie's two halves of basketball, "We were playing outside of ourselves and not playing our game, I was forcing some shots. Once we come together and take care of our personal roles, we're solid. Everyone came out fighting in the second half. People just focused up."

Kern said bringing the game back to simple basics was the key, "The kids calmed down and we simplified and got back to what works. Quit going for the steals, quit lunging and just man up."

They will attempt to stay unbeaten on Saturday against the defending State Champion and 3rd-ranked Evanston Red Devils (2-0) at noon.

The Laramie Lady Plainsmen picked up their first win of the season with a 43-40 victory over Evanston. Madison Legerski converted on an old-fashioned 3-point play in the final 20 seconds to give LHS the lead for good in the back and forth game. It featured seven lead changes and four ties. Katie Kuhn led the way with 12 points, while Caitlin Hensley added 10 points and 6 rebounds.

The defending state champs are now 1-1 on the season. They'll face Rock Springs Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Both LHS games will be broadcast online only through Network1Sports. Head to www.network1sports.com/station/kowbnet to listen live.
