The Laramie 11-12 All-Stars split their two games at the Wyoming Little League State Tournament in the Gem City Thursday.

Laramie won their postponed game from Wednesday night over Riverton on Thursday morning. The final score was 13-3 in five innings.

Mahlon Morris hit two home runs and drove in three in the victory. He hit a solo shot in the first that gave Laramie a 1-0 lead. His two-run shot put them ahead 7-0 in the fourth inning.

Brandon Chavez and Caleb Squires added two hits and two RBI’s apiece. Chavez got the win on the mound and lasted into the fifth inning before Alex Mercil got the last two outs.

In their second game, the 11-12 All-Stars lost to Gillette 12-7, as six errors defensively contributed to their defeat.

Three errors in the third inning allowed Gillette to take an early 4-0 lead. Laramie came back with three runs on a Brandon Chavez double, Mason Branch single and an error by Gillette that trimmed it to 4-3. Two more errors led to three more Gillette runs in the fourth. That lead ballooned to 12-3 before Laramie scored again.

Morris delivered two hits, including another home run and drove in three. Mason Branch added two hits and an RBI. Jaedyn Brown took the loss on the mound.

Laramie faces elimination against Cody at 10 a.m. Friday, while Gillette has advanced to Saturday’s championship game at 10 a.m.
