The Laramie All-Stars in Little League and Jr. Babe Ruth baseball tournaments last week produced results that brought good news and bad news.

Laramie 9-10 Little League All-Stars

The best outcome came on Friday at the District 2 Little League tournament in Wheatland, where the 9-10 Laramie All-Stars won two games to qualify for the Wyoming Little League State Tournament this week in Cody.

Jerry Dodd's squad defeated Sheridan 13-5 last Friday morning and advanced to the "true" second place game. They would rematch with Platte County, who had shut-out Laramie about 24 hours earlier. This time the Laramie All-Stars came through with a 9-5 victory. It gave them a shot to defend their state title they won a year ago.

Laramie will be the number two seed from District 2 and face the host Cody in their first game at the double elimination Wyoming Little League State Tournament on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Gillette American will face Big Horn (basin) in the other first round game Wednesday.

Laramie 11-12 Little League All-Stars

On the opposite end of the spectrum were the results for the Laramie 11-12 All-Stars, who failed to make the state tournament for a second straight year.

Micah Morris' team battled their way to a third place finish at the District 2 Little League tournament in Wheatland.

After losing their opener last Monday, they came back through the loser's bracket with wins over Platte County (10-7) and Torrington (9-3). Playing a second game last Thursday, the Laramie All-Stars lost to Sheridan 13-3 in four innings for a spot in the District championship game.

Laramie 13U Jr. Babe Ruth All-Stars

The Laramie Jr. Babe Ruth All-Stars reached the state championship game last Saturday, but lost to the host Sheridan.

Laramie opened with a 16-0 win over Douglas in five innings last Friday afternoon. Michael Schutterle threw a complete game shutout on the mound and had a key triple in the third inning that led to the blowout victory.

Their second round robin game last Friday night was a tough extra inning 5-3 defeat to Sheridan. Despite good pitching from Caleb Eaton, Laramie gave up two runs in the seventh which tied the game at three. Sheridan added a pair of runs in the eighth for the victory.

It was a rematch in the state title game the next day. Sheridan prevailed 11-3. There were six defensive errors by the Laramie All-Stars led to nine unearned runs in the loss. Sheridan broke it open with five runs in the third. They added five more runs in the sixth.

Manager Rob Schutterle said, "We were hitting the ball hard, but right at people, and had a handful of errors in two innings that really were the factor in this game."

Sheridan advances to the regional tournament in Helena, Montana.
