On Friday afternoon in Green River, Laramie's 11/12 year-old Little League All-Stars defeated Gillette 8-3 to clinch a berth in the Wyoming State Little League Championship game. Amazingly enough, Laramie's 9/10 year-old squad also defeated a team from Gillette on Friday, 18-6, and will also play Saturday for a shot at the state title.

Both teams will face Cody in the championship, but must get two wins to clinch the title as Cody is undefeated in the 9/10 and 11/12 tournament brackets. The 9/10 game begins at 9:00 a.m. and will be broadcast online-only through KOWB. Coverage will begin at 8:55 and can be heard by clicking here.

Coverage for the 11/12 game will be broadcast over the airwaves of KOWB beginning at 11:55 a.m., but can also be heard online by clicking here.

Laramie's 9/10 squad played first in the day, with a 1:00 start against Gillette American, and while the game was close for the first few innings, Laramie pulled away in the fourth and got the victory, 18-6. In looking ahead to Saturday's title matchup with Cody, Manager Brett Bott says he isn't worried about facing Cody and beating them twice in the same day.

These kids are so so skilled. They're great, they're well-trained, if they bring their whole game with them tomorrow, no worries."

Bott says that as of Saturday morning, he has only one ineligible pitcher out of six, which will really help allow Laramie to simple play baseball.

We get to put a pitcher in there, who can play the whole game and really find a rhythm and do what he does."

Not long after the 9/10 squad clinched their championship berth, Laramie's 11/12 year old team followed suit, taking the field at 4:00 for a rematch of the District 2 Championship game against Gillette. Gillette brought their ace Gabe Conklin to the mound for the game, and though he was able to keep Laramie at bay early, Logan Pickard and Blake Moore scored in the third inning, giving Laramie a lead which they would not give up.

Laramie added runs from William Yates, Ethan Sell and Michael Schutterle in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth from Yates, Sell and a towering solo-shot from Reid Baty which travelled nearly 300 feet.

As absurdly astonishing as Baty's homer was, it was his work on the mound that truly stood out as he paced Gillette to just 3 runs (only one earned) in his more than five innings pitched. Baty also struck out ten Gillette batters and held them to only six hits in the game.

Laramie Manager Kelly Steiner said it was the "awesome all-around performance" of Baty and the top-to-bottom hitting that carried Laramie to Saturday's championship. Though Laramie only tallied 8 runs, they connected for 14 hits and saw quality at-bats from many hitters, which consistently worked the pitch count for Gillette's pitchers.

Laramie's only loss in the tournament thus far came from Cody on Thursday afternoon, 13-3 and with redemption in mind, the team of local All-Stars will need two wins to clinch their seventh-consecutive state title. KOWB's coverage will begin at 11:55 a.m.
