Laramie Accepts New Ambulance And Donates Old Unit To Small Town

The City of Laramie Fire Department recently accepted delivery of a new ambulance to replace one with over 140,000 service miles. The new 2015 Chevrolet K3500 Type 1 ambulance replaces an older 2004 MS 149 unit.

According to Fire Chief Dan Johnson, the ambulance was placed into service in July 2014. The unit came from Braun Northwest, a specialty emergency vehicle company based out of Washington.

The 2004 unit was donated to another Wyoming Community. The City of Laramie City Council voted on the matter in November 2013. Working with the State of Wyoming EMS Office, the donation to the Town of Sundance/Sundance EMS occurred in September 2014. The Town of Sundance has a population of approximately 1,200 people, with the Fire Department and Emergency Services providing assistance to a population of about 2500 people, according to their website.

In a letter from Crook County Medical Services District personnel, appreciation for the donation was expressed. The letter says the donation shows dedication to "making all of Wyoming a better place" and demonstrates a care for the emergency needs of small towns.

The new ambulance was funded through a 2013 Wyoming State Land and Investment Board consensus grant awarded to Albany County with matching funds from the City of Laramie.
