The top three showdown in Wyoming 4A high school volleyball between Laramie and East in Cheyenne lived up to the hype Wednesday night.

In a hard fought five-set battle, the Lady Plainsmen beat Cheyenne East.

Laramie (20-4, 6-0) stayed perfect in conference action with the victory. Scores of the match were 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 24-26 and 15-11.

The Lady Plainsmen were led by Jennifer Aadland’s double-double with 20 kills and 13 digs. Katie Welniak also recorded a double-double. She had 11 kills and 10 digs. Maia Edwards came through with 16 kills and seven blocks. Lexi Pulley added 38 digs to lead LHS defensively.

It was Laramie’s first win against the Thunderbirds in four years. East hadn’t lost a home match since 2013.

This pitted No. 2 against No. 3 in the Wyopreps.com Coaches and Media Rankings. Voting for the new poll cut off before the match. The new rankings revealed Thursday morning had East at No. 1 and LHS at No. 2, even though Laramie received more votes for the top spot.

The Lady Plainsmen host Green River Saturday in a non-conference match at 3 p.m.
