The Laramie Lady Plainsmen swimming and diving team came in third place at last weekend’s 4A East Conference Championships in Gillette.

Laramie head coach Tom Hudson said he was really pleased about getting two new state qualifiers. Junior Sarah Holles made it in the 100 backstroke, and junior Kate Jablin got the mark in the 100 breaststroke.

“Really that’s the main goal at conference, is to see how many qualifiers you can get, and then get that experience of swimming in a championship meet, and we got that, too.”

Sophomore Teryn White won Laramie’s only individual conference title on the diving board. She scored 374.50 points and beat junior teammate Kylie Campbell by almost 39 points. Junior Michaela Pooler completed a top three sweep for LHS with a third place finish.

Hudson added, “Teryn has just been so strong… Teryn’s out there working hard and just getting better every week, and she’s very impressive.”

Laramie scored 245 points as a team and came in behind Gillette (330) and Sheridan (294) in the team standings.

Freshman Olivia McPherson set the conference record in Friday’s prelims in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.59. That was broken Saturday, as Gillette’s Sani Carsrud went 24.11 and edged McPherson by eight-hundreds of a second (24.19) in the finals. McPherson added a fourth place in the 100 free.

Junior Maggie Clerkin came in third place in both the 200 and 500 freestyle races.

Laramie also came in third in the 200 and 400 free relays.

The Lady Plainsmen will host a Last Chance qualifying meet with Cheyenne East and Cheyenne South in attendance Friday at the LHS Natatorium. It will also be Laramie’s senior day. This year’s senior class will be honored at the meet. It starts at 4 p.m.
