The stock may have gotten the best of the cowboys, as Laramie Jubilee Days rodeo action began Friday night at the Albany County Fairgrounds.

After Friday morning’s slack for the three timed events of steer wrestling, tie-down roping, and team roping, the lead changed in two of the three.

Oklahoma cowboy Travis Reimer went to the front of the tie-down roping with a run of 7.9 seconds. Utah’s Jake Hannum had turned in an 8.3-second effort during slack. Devon Burris of Arizona opened Friday night’s perf with an 8.5-second run, which is good enough for third.

The other lead change was in team roping, where past world champions Levi Simpson and Jeremy Buhler of Alberta, Canada put a quick run of 5.4 seconds to take the lead. Texas cowboys Ty Bach and Trey Johnson are in second after a 6.6. A run of 7.9 turned in by Cody Tew (MT) and Nano Garza (NM) is third. They registered that run in slack.

The rest of the timed event cowboys struggled with either no-time or broken barriers that added a penalty to their time. Seven of the 10 team roping duos in the perf recorded a no-time.

In steer wrestling, Gage Hesse (CO) has the fastest time at 4.6 seconds, and that came in slack. The best time in the performance was Gage Greer from Gillette, WY at 6.5 seconds.

Colby Fedor of Texas has the early Bareback riding lead thanks to a score of 82.50 points aboard ‘Morning Dove.’

Riverton, WY cowboy Andy Clarys has the lead in Saddle Bronc riding after an 86 on ‘Goodnight Trail.’

Clarys said, “That's a pretty nice horse of Daniel Beard's. I've seen him a couple times. Pretty tickled to have him here. We had a really good day, and I'm pretty lucky everything went well. It sure felt good."

Alberta, Canada cowboy Clay Elliot rode ‘Miller Time’ to an 81 and is in second place.

There was a pair of sub-18 second efforts in the first runs of Barrel Racing. The lead belongs to Torrington, WY cowgirl Jaime Merrill, who record a run of 17.92 seconds. Right behind her is Douglas, WY cowgirl Heidi Tillard at 17.98 seconds.

Barrel Racing slack will take place after Saturday evening’s performance. Rodeo announcer Bob Edmonds said they had about 150 entries for just that event.

The final event of the night was Bull Riding. Of the 14 cowboys up, only two finished with qualified rides, though, three more were very, very close. The lead belongs to Oklahoma cowboy Lane Toon, who put up an 80 point ride aboard the bull named ‘Boomshakalaka.’

In second with the only other ride was Virginia cowboy Winston Queensberry with a 70 on ‘Dressed in Leather.’

PRCA rodeo action continues with another performance on Saturday at 7 p.m. Sunday’s third performance is at 1:30 p.m.
