Both Laramie High School track and field teams ended up in third place at the 4A East Regional Track Championships in Sheridan last Friday and Saturday.

Each squad won one event, and it happened to be the same event last Friday. Senior Ella DeWolf and junior Chris Henry swept the individual titles in the 3200 meter run. DeWolf ran the eight laps in 11:50.12. Henry covered the same distance in 9:53.52.

In fact, the Plainsmen placed four in the top five of the 3200 meters. Henry was followed by junior Jacob Morgan, freshman Albert Steiner and junior Colin Rucinski, who finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Lady Plainsmen also had four in the top eight. After DeWolf's victory, sophomore Maria Smith-Lopez came in fourth, sophomore Hailey Schmidt was fifth and senior Mrudhula Baskaran was eighth.

Henry also added a runner-up placing in the 1600 meter run and a fourth in the 800 meters. He led LHS to a second place effort in the 4X800 meter relay.

DeWolf wasn't too shabby either. She added a third in the 1600 meters, sixth in the 800 and was part of the second place girls' 4X400 meter relay.

Other top finishes for the gents included junior Zach Shannon with a runner-up in the triple jump. His best leap was 40-feet-6.5-inches. Junior Zach Ziegler was second in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles. Sophomore McCade Johnson finished in third place in both hurdle events. Seniors Danny Bradfield and John Freeman were third in the discus and 800 meters, respectively.

The Laramie boys also recorded a third place finish in both the 4X100 and 4X400 meter relays.

On the ladies side, senior Taylor Arsaga was second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles. The 4X100 meter relay also came in as runner-up.
