Is Texas A&M Leaving the Big 12 for the SEC?
If you thought all the conference realignment in college sports was over, you might be wrong.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry confirmed that his alma mater, Texas A&M, is in talks with the SEC for possible future membership. Perry stressed, however, that he didn’t have any sort of inside information about where the discussion stands.
As the SEC looks to expand, some commentators say this move makes sense. But others aren’t so sure. With the much-publicized defections of Nebraska and Colorado, the Big 12 now stands at just 10 teams. If the Aggies do decide to leave, the Big 12 could face more problems, since Oklahoma might follow them out the door.
And the SEC may be gearing up to go after some more schools. Is a 16-team conference out of the question?
