Internal Revenue Service spokeswoman Karen Connelly is advising last minute filers not to rush through their return.

Even though the tax deadline (April 15) is fast approaching, it's important to take your time, fill out your return correctly and double check it. Rushing through your return could lead to overlooking money you are entitled to or other errors. One way to lessen the chances of mistakes is to file electronically, since doing so generally eliminates math mistakes as well as some other common problems.

Connelly also reminds taxpayers that they can file for an extension beyond April 15th using form 4868. But an extension to file isn't an extension to pay, so you must estimate your tax bill and pay at least 90 percent by April 15th.
