Horse racing in Wyoming has been approved by state regulators. Races will begin in Rock Springs starting next month. The races will take place at Sweetwater Downs.

For over two decades there has not been a horse race held in Wyoming. Wyoming Downs in Evanston used to be the states only horse racing facility and is Wyoming's most prestigious track. The races being held at Sweetwater Downs in Rock Springs will be operated by an investment group led by Eugene Joyce. Joyce is son to the former owner of Wyoming Downs.

The Wyoming Pari-Mutual Commission approved the horse racing proposal on Thursday June 30th. Races are now set for August 20th and 21st as well as September 3rd and 4th. All races will be held at Sweetwater Downs in Rock Springs.
