Holocaust Memorial At UW

Reading of victims’ names from the Holocaust is among events scheduled for Holocaust Remembrance Week Nov. 10-14 at the University of Wyoming.

Names will be read each day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Wyoming Union breezeway. People interested in reading names for a particular block of time can email Noelle Johnson at ajohns82@uwyo.edu or call (307) 287-3375.

By reading aloud the names of victims during Holocaust Remembrance Week, we restore their humanity, honor their memory, and recognize that the 6 million Jewish and 5 million other victims were individual men, women and children - Sara Robinson, UW International Programs student adviser and coordinator.

The process of dehumanization was fundamental to the Nazi destruction of European Jewry during the Holocaust.

The UW Hillel student group leads the week’s events. Hillel, the largest Jewish campus organization in the world, supports Jewish students and those curious about Judaism. The organization works to build Jewish interests and activities, and strengthens the Jewish community.

Events during Holocaust Remembrance Week were selected to coincide with Kristallnacht, also referred to as “The Night of Broken Glass,” an event against Jews throughout Nazi Germany and Austria that occurred Nov. 9-10, 1938.
