Groups Petition Wyoming Oil And Gas Commission Over Chemical Exemptions

The Wyoming Oil and Gas Commission is being challenged in court for allegedly granting inappropriate trade secret requests under Hydraulic Fracturing Disclosure Rule.

A coalition of environmental groups are calling for the commission to honor the intent of the rule designed to inform the public about what chemicals are injected during hydraulic fracturing.

Coalition Attorney, Laura Beaton says the rule calls for disclosure unless company secrecy can be justified.

“Unfortunately the commission has approved almost every trade secret request it’s received regardless of how unsupported or overly broad the trade secret requests are.”

The groups want a court review of exemptions, arguing that public disclosure of fracturing chemicals is critical for monitoring any potential impact to water resources and public health.
