The Gillette Camels came to Laramie Saturday and rolled to a sweep of the Laramie Lady Plainsmen and Plainsmen at the LHS gym.

The girl’s game wasn’t close, as Laramie was blown out 72-21. In the boy’s game, Gillette steadily pulled away for a 68-40 victory.

Gillette dominated from the opening tip. They jumped out to a 16-0 lead, scored 55 points in the first half and forced 22 turnovers by the Lady Plainsmen by the break.

The Lady Camels made 14 three-pointers, shot 54 percent from beyond the arc and 46 percent overall in the game.

The 40-point running clock mercy rule began at the start of the second half.

Laramie (7-6, 0-2) lost its’ fourth straight game. They had more turnovers than total points. The Lady Plainsmen shot 19 percent from the floor. They were also out-rebounded 36-26.

Gillette used a 15-2 run at the end of the third quarter that put the game out of reach.

Down by 15 at half, Laramie closed within 41-29 in the third before Gillette rolled to victory.

An early 9-2 spurt by the Plainsmen gave them their only lead of the game, at 14-13, in the first quarter. The Camels scored the last five points of the period for an 18-14 lead. They extended their advantage to 37-22 by halftime.

Gillette shot 44 percent from the field, knocked down eight 3-pointers and went 14-of-16 at the foul line. The Camels also held a 33-22 edge on the glass.

Laramie (6-7, 1-1) shot only 41 percent. Four Plainsmen scored six points apiece. LHS also committed 17 turnovers compared to nine by Gillette.

There’s just one game on the schedule for this weekend. Laramie will host Cheyenne South in a girl’s-boy’s doubleheader Friday, January 29 at the LHS gym. The varsity girl’s game is at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity boy’s at 7 p.m.
