The Gem City Baseball Association announced Thursday that the 2014 season for the Gem City Thunder has been cancelled.

The cancellation was due to a lack of volunteers to house players for the summer season.

In a release from the GCBA, Co-Executive Director Stacey Harvey said, "We are disappointed that more people from the community did not come forward to serve as host homes for the summer."

The GCBA Board notified team members, parents and coaches earlier this week.

The Thunder was set to play in the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League in 2014. It would have been their first season in the MCBL. Their announced schedule had them with 23 home games and 17 road dates.

They are still planning to host numerous activities throughout the summer. This includes games that involve other summer college baseball clubs, youth camps and a special lunch and learn session for women in the community to gain more knowledge about the game of baseball.
