Gas Prices Rise As 2014 Gets Underway

Wyoming drivers are paying more for gas in the New Year. The weekly survey of prices by gasbuddy-dot-com show the cost of gas rose just under three cents a gallon in Wyoming last week, with a statewide average of $3.07 a gallon. Petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan says despite the rise, Casper and some other cities are seeing some of the lowest gas prices in the nation.

DeHaan says recent drops in oil prices will be good news for Wyoming drivers, as gas prices should remain stable, or show a decline.

Prices in Wyoming were 20.7 cents a gallon higher than the same day a year ago, and 4.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

DeHaan says

While the cold weather is about the lock the country into a deep freeze, we're also seeing a bit of a freeze in the national average." Adding that "for much of the week ahead, we may see the freeze at the pump continue, as oil prices have recently shed some of their gains from late December. January and February see some of weakest demand for gasoline in the year, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the average move slightly downward in the next couple weeks."

Gas was selling for as low as $2.82 a gallon in Casper, $2.93 in Cheyenne and $2.95 in Laramie. The national average is $3.30 a gallon.
