LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming appears to have its largest freshman class in history.

Freshman enrollment as of Thursday was 1,860, with an official count due Wednesday.

Enrollment is up despite fewer students graduating from Wyoming high schools.

Kyle Moore is associate vice provost for enrollment management. Moore says the university has taken steps to reduce the number of students who participate in freshman orientation but don't end up taking classes in the fall.

Moore says the university also is enrolling a greater share of Wyoming high school graduates.

About 18 percent of Wyoming high school graduates have enrolled at the university, up from 15 percent in 2017.
