CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A former Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper has been given a three-year probationary sentence for causing more than $2,000 in damage to the car belonging to his estranged wife's boyfriend last February.

Robert King, who pleaded guilty in October to felony property destruction, also was ordered to pay restitution. A charge that he violated an order of protection filed by his now former wife was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Laramie County prosecutor Joshua Taylor argued Friday that King should be sentenced to two years in prison for violating the oath he took as a law enforcement officer.

King's attorney said King wasn't acting like he normally would because he was going through a messy divorce. King apologized in District Court, saying he regretted his actions.
