Fire restrictions in the Medicine Bow National Forest in the Brush Creek-Hayden and Laramie Ranger Districts of Medicine Bow National Forest.

According to a press release sent by the U.S. Forest Service, increased fuel moistures, the reduced occurrence of human-caused fires and favorable long-term fire weather forecasts are all being sited as reasons for lifting the ban.  The decision was made in coordination with federal, state and local agencies.

The U.S. Forest Service does remind that fires in the area should be kept in check.  ”Despite increased precipitation in July and part of August, overall drought conditions are predicted to persist over the next several weeks.  Forest visitors are advised to use caution when building and maintaining campfires.  Always make sure that campfires are dead out, meaning that coals and other burned materials are cool before leaving a fire unattended.”

Stage 2 fire restrictions will remain in effect for the Douglas Ranger District, which includes the Laramie Peak Unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest and the Thunder Basin National Grassland.  Stage 2 restrictions that absolutely no fires are allowed, even in developed campground areas.

The U.S. Forest Service invites those with questions to give them a call:

-Forest Supervisor’s Office/Laramie Ranger District, 2468 Jackson Street, Laramie, WY, (307)745-2300
