Fire Out at Wyoming Gas Plant

OPAL, Wyo. (AP) — A fire at a western Wyoming natural gas processing plant has finally burned out after five days.

A spokesman for Tulsa, Okla.-based Williams Partners says the fire was out at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The fire had been burning since an April 23 explosion at the facility near the small community of Opal (oh-PAL').

No one was hurt in the explosion and fire, which prompted the evacuation of the town's 95 residents for a day.

Williams Partners spokesman George Angerbauer says investigators are trying to determine what caused the explosion. He says it remains unknown when the plant will be operational, but he noted that the incident involved only one of four processing facilities at the site.

The plant processes gas produced from western Wyoming and northern Utah wells.
