That time in the season has come, where the teams themselves will determine which one is really #1 and not rely on the coaches/media rankings anymore.

Despite losing their first game of the season last week, Gillette remains on top of the 4A Boys rankings, however they are not unanimous anymore. #2 Laramie would swipe 1 first place vote away. Sheridan maintains a solid #3 position after last week's big win vs. the Camels. Green River is back in the rankings at #4 after winning the west. Kelly Walsh drops one spot to #5. Some might question why is GR ranked ahead of KW, when KW just beat GR this past weekend. The answer to that is...GR had already secured the #1 seed before their game at KW started, thus the Wolves had nothing to play for, in terms of seeding for the west regional tournament.

Jackson is now the only undefeated team left in the state, and they are once again the unanimous #1 ranked 3A boys team. After this season is over, it will be interesting to see how the Broncs fare against a lot more 4A competition, because they will join that Class. Meanwhile, Buffalo and Lander hold steady at #2 and #3 respectively, heading into the post season. Worland has stumbled some as of late, and the Warriors find themselves sharing the #4 spot with Torrington. Cody has shown much improvement compared to the past few years, and although it's not enough to make the top 5, they have one of the #1 seeds heading into the state tournament, and that maybe a better prize.

For only the second time this season, the East Conference does not control all top 5 spots, in the 4A Girls rankings. Laramie is back on top, while Gillette shares the #2 position with a Cheyenne Central team, that's in the state tournament for the first time in 3 years. Granted the Lady Camels won the last contest vs. the top ranked Lady Plainsmen, but perhaps the voters got concerned that they have not impressed many since that win. #4 Sheridan has home field advantage in their do-or-die game vs. unranked and 3-time defending state champ Cheyenne East. The Lady Thunderbirds beat the Lady Broncs in the last 2 state championship games, and it's guaranteed that one of them will not be back to compete. Elsewhere, Natrona has cracked the top 5 for the first time this season. The west top seeded Fillies get the #5 ranking.

In 3A Girls, Worland reign at #1 lasted all of 1 week. Jackson reclaims the top spot, and the Lady Warriors are back at #2. Buffalo, Star Valley and Torrington round out the top 5. SV is the only team that has to play to get into the state tournament. The other ranked teams are already preparing for the tournament in Sheridan.
