An Emergency disaster drill and exercise will be held at the Union Pacific railroad yard on Wednesday.

According to Jessica Carrington, Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator, citizens in the Laramie area will see increased Emergency activity in and around the rail yard including hazmat, police and fire crews; ambulances and military personnel.

"We're running a hazmat drill, but w will run it just like it's a real incident" Carrington says.  "The hazmat team will come in, assess the situation, make all the right calls for their safety and public safety in how to fix the situation and run from there."

Carrington goes on to say that the emergency drill will not adversely affect first-responder's ability to respond to real-world emergencies, and people in real emergency situations should not hesitate to call 9-11 for assistance.

Officials say that drills and exercises of this nature ensure the community's safety by allowing first responders to practice their skills.

The exercise drill will be limited to the train yard on Wednesday, if citizens notice suspicious activity elsewhere, they are asked to notify the authorities as usual.
