While he doesn't cite any hard numbers to back it up, Laramie County District Attorney Jeremiah Sandburg says there seem to be a lot more homicides all over the country recently.

The D.A. says he recently attended an autopsy in Loveland, Colorado, where he was told the number of such procedures conducted this year is already close to exceeding the record number ever performed in a year at the facility.

Sandburg says he recently attended a symposium in Minnesota for prosecutors and law enforcement experts from across the country, where he heard about ''an explosion countrywide" in homicides from those attending the event.

The District Attorney says there is no apparent explanation for the supposed increase in killings. "You can't tie it back to gang activity or drug activity or any kind of criminal activity," said Sandburg.  "People just seem to be upset and we have a lot more of that going on right now."

Locally, Cheyenne Police are trying to solve a double homicide at a Cheyenne business that happened in July. No arrests have been made in that case. Cheyenne businessman Dave Doyle was also brutally murdered in Charlotte, North Carolina in July. Three suspects have been arrested in connection with his death.
