Cowgirls Win One, Lose One On Montana Road Swing

The University of Wyoming Cowgirls accomplished a rare feat in a victory at Montana last Thursday, but went ice cold in a defeat at Montana State Saturday.

Marquelle Dent scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the second half of the Wyoming Cowgirls 60-54 victory at Montana Thursday. They lost the back half of the road trip at Montana State, 79-52, Saturday.

Wyoming (4-3) became only the second team to ever win three straight games at Montana's Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. The Cowgirls joined Oregon State, who accomplished the feat in the 1980's.

Kaitlyn Mileto added 15 points on five 3-pointers. Four of those came in the first half. The Cowgirls shot 56 percent from beyond the arc.

Head coach Joe Legerski said, "Kaitlyn really got things going for us. Prior to the game, we talked about being ready to shoot the ball when it comes to you. If you are set, you need to get the shot off, have good balance and she is a great shooter."

Saturday in Bozeman was a different story. The Bobcats closed the game on a 21-1 run and blew-out the Cowgirls, 79-52.

Wyoming shot only 33 percent from the field, which included 23 percent in the second half.

They were down ten at halftime. They pulled within seven, at 58-51, with ten minutes left. That's when they went ice cold and managed only one point the rest of the game.

Legerski said, "It's a pretty simple game some nights in that you need to make shots. I thought bigger than that was Montana State played with a great deal of energy."

Kayla Woodward posted her third double-double of the season with 17 points and ten rebounds to lead UW.

Mileto knocked down three 3-pointers and became the school's all-time leader in career 3-point field goals made with 216. She surpassed former Cowgirl Shelby Hoffman, who had 215. Mileto finished with ten points in the game.

The Cowgirls are back at home for their next two games. First up, they will take on South Dakota School of Mines Wednesday at 7 p.m.
