The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team suffered a conference opening loss 70-68 against the Boise State Broncos on Wednesday night in Boise.

“This is conference play,” said head coach Joe Legerski. “We had to have someone step up and Kayla Woodward did that tonight with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Boise State hit a three-point field goal at the end of the game and we couldn’t hit a final shot at the end. It’s difficult to play on the road and you just have to win those final four minutes. We competed all night long coming back from 13 down and had a chance up four. Four of our five starters finished the night in double-figures and I’m proud of them.”

With 30 seconds to go, Woodward scored a layup giving Wyoming a 68-66 lead. Lauren Lenhardt hit a huge three-point field goal with 20 to go putting them up 69-68. The Cowgirls had several opportunities at the end of the game and their last second shot would fall short as Boise State won the game 70-68.

Kayla Woodward finished her night with a career high 25 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 11-23 from the field. Kaitlyn Mileto had 15 points plus a career high eight rebounds. Both Ashley Sickles and Chaundra Sewell finished the night with 13 points each. Wyoming shot 28-63 (.444) from the field and 4-15 (.267) from beyond the arc.

Boise State (8-6 overall, 1-0 MW) was led by Brandi Henton with 21 points followed by Lauren Lenhardt with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Broncos shot 27-68 (.397) from the field.

Wyoming (11-3 overall, 0-1 MW) will return home to face the Nevada Wolf Pack, on Saturday, Jan. 12. The game is set for 2:00 p.m. in Laramie.
