Timely shots by Bowling Green combined with a tough offensive night for Wyoming sent the Falcons past the Cowgirls 60-53 Thursday night at the Arena-Auditorium. Three Cowgirls scored in double figures led by Ashley Sickles with 16 points.

Chaundra Sewell added 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, while Kaitlyn Mileto scored 10 points.

Bowling Green was led by Jessica Slagle with 16 points, which included 12-of-16 from the free throw line. Chrissy Steffen added 15. Four other Falcons scored five or six points.

A 15-6 run by the Falcons (9-3) to start the second half gave them a 43-30 lead with 14:19 remaining. Steffen sparked the spurt with eight points, including two 3's. UW kept fighting back and closed within five in the last minute, but Bowling Green hit enough key shots and free throws to halt the comeback bid by the Cowgirls.

Wyoming (4-8) jumped out to an early 16-8 lead thanks to Sickles and Mileto, who scored six points apiece. That's when Wyoming went cold. They suffered through three scoring droughts of three minutes or longer. Bowling Green took their first lead with 8:03 remaining in the first half on a basket by Jillian Halfhill. After two lead changes, the Falcons held a 28-24 lead at halftime.

Wyoming shot 36 percent from the field (21-58). They struggled from beyond the arc and at the stripe. The Cowgirls were 4-19 from 3-point range (21 percent) and went 7-16 at the foul line (44 percent).

Bowling Green shot only 36.5 percent from the field (19-52). They were 8-of-25 from 3 (32 percent), but went 14-19 at the free throw line (74 percent). The Falcons out-rebounded the Cowgirls 42-37.
