The Wyoming Cowgirls lost their third straight, as league leader Fresno State escaped Laramie with a 49-42 victory Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs rallied from an eight-point third quarter deficit, as they scored the final six points and trimmed UW’s lead to 33-31. Then, Fresno State went on an 8-0 run and took the lead for good midway through the fourth. The Cowgirls were held scoreless for five minutes in the final frame.

Wyoming (10-9, 3-6) struggled against the Bulldogs zone defense, especially in the fourth quarter. Four of the Cowgirls ten turnovers came in the final seven minutes.

Both teams struggled from the field. Fresno State shot 39 percent, which was bolstered by a 54 percent clip in the fourth quarter. UW shot only 28 percent from the field.

Fresno State (12-7, 8-0) was led by Toni Smith with 14 points, while Bego Faz Davalos added 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Natalie Baker scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Cowgirls. Marta Gomez added 12 points and six boards.

Wyoming faces the number two team in the league standings, rival Colorado State, Saturday in Fort Collins. The game tips-off at 2 p.m.
