University of Wyoming head football coach Craig Bohl announced the signing of junior college cornerback Rico Gafford Wednesday.

Gafford is 5-11, 180-pounds and started the past two seasons at Iowa Western Community College. He helped the Reivers to a 10-2 record during the 2015 season and a victory in the Graphic Edge Bowl. In 2014, IWCC finished 11-1 and lost in the national championship.

Bohl said a release from the university,

"Rico comes to us from a great program. He will bring outstanding speed and athleticism to our secondary. He is very competitive and has played a lot of football. He will come in this spring and bring great value to our team on all levels. We are very excited to begin working with Rico."

Gafford had 44 total tackles, recovered two fumbles, intercepted two passes and had four pass break-ups in 2015. His freshman season of 2014, he recorded 33 total tackles, recovered a fumble, had three interceptions and three pass break-ups.

The mid-year signing period began Wednesday and continues through Jan. 15, 2016. Gafford is the first student-athlete to sign with the Cowboys during this recruiting season.
