Cowboy Golf Wins Battle In The Tetons

The Wyoming golf team successfully defended their Battle in the Tetons title on Tuesday afternoon at Headwaters Golf Club in Victor, Idaho as the Cowboys fired a tournament-low score of 277 (-11) in the third and final round of the eight team tournament. Sophomore Kamrin Allen carded a 67 (-5) on Tuesday as he earned the individual championship title as he won his first event as a Cowboy, he finished the tournament at 210 (-6).

"I'm proud of the kids as each player went out and played solid golf today," Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen said. "I loved the balance that we had today as a team and everyone went out and played hard."

The Cowboys won the tournament by shooting an 857 (-7) finishing ahead of Utah Valley as the leader after the first two rounds finished the tournament with an 862 (-2). The win for UW marks the first time since 1998 and 1999 (Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate) that the Cowboys have defended a tournament title. Southern Utah finished in third-place at 873 (+9) followed by Utah State at 880 (+16) as host Weber State rounded out the top-five at 885 (+21).

Allen , who found himself in fourth-place, two strokes behind the leaders after two rounds fired a 67 (-5), the lowest score of the third round to walk away with the championship. Allen's final two rounds of 66 (-6) and 67 (-5) were the lowest scores of the tournament. Last year's champion Eddie Stewart finished the event tied for third as he turned in a third round score of 73 (+1) as he finished the tournament at 214 (-2). The Battle of the Tetons tournament will also go down in Cowboy history as the first time teammates have won the same tournament in back-to-back seasons.

"Kamrin is a great young player and was feeling really good about his action and his game the last two rounds ," Jensen said.

Newcomer Cameron Lindell added his second under par performance of the tournament as he finished the day at 70 (-2) as he finished his first tournament as a Cowboy in 14th-place at 220 (+4). Brent Baylon had a great third round turning in a score of 69 (-3) as he finished the tournament at 221 (+5) in 19th-place. Eric Parish finished his third round at 223 (+7) as he finished in 22nd place in the 50-man field.

The Cowboys will head to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take part in the USAF Gene Miranda Invitational on Sunday and Monday.
