A 40-year-old Colorado man is dead following a Monday evening rollover crash in Albany County.

Richard Fross was driving a commercial truck eastbound on a steep section of Highway 230 at about 7:30 p.m., according to a crash report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The commercial truck was traveling at a speed too fast for the steep grade of the roadway, and too fast for a vehicle that size. The rig reportedly weighed 140,000 pounds.

Evidence of skid marks on the highway showed that for several miles, Fross tried to brake as he traveled down the highway. At about mile post 28.5, Fross lost control in a downhill, right-hand curve.

The truck left the roadway and rolled onto its roof before coming to rest. Fross, despite wearing his seatbelt, died of his injuries.

The road was dry, and weather was clear at the time of the crash, according to the report.

The Patrol is investigating driver inexperience, speed and equipment failure as contributing factors in the crash.
