Clark Street Bridge Will Close Temporarily for Repairs

The Clark Street Viaduct will be temporarily shut down on Monday, Aug. 8 so the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) can make repairs to the bridge deck. The viaduct will be closed on both ends at 9:30 a.m. on Monday and is expected to be opened one week later, weather dependent.

WYDOT is advising Laramie motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists to use detours. Bicyclists and pedestrians can use the Garfield Street footbridge while motorists will need to head to Curtis Street on the north end of town or to the Third Street Interchange on the south end.

Tim McGary, WYDOT construction engineer, says the repairs will consist of patching potholes and the sidewalk, replacing failing expansion devices with temporary expansion joints with epoxy and time permitting, work on the curb including putting concrete facing over the reinforcement steel.

The goal is to reopen the bridge by Saturday, Aug. 13. McGary will have two and a half crews working throughout the week on the different projects and he says they will wait to open the bridge until Sunday if patching takes longer than anticipated. If satisfactory work is not completed on the curb, a crew may come back in September to complete the project.
