A single vehicle rollover crash on November 1st resulted in the death of a Cheyenne woman. The crash occurred at mile post 48 approximately 32 miles north of Cheyenne on US 85 at 12:49 p.m.

Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. David Wagener says 35 year old Laura Veltkamp was driving a 2002 Ford Expedition was heading northbound when it partially went off the roadway to the right.  She corrected the steering back to the left onto the roadway and went partially into the southbound traffic lane where the vehicle was over-corrected back to the right. During the over-correction, the Expedition went fully off the roadway into the borrow ditch and rolled.
During the rollover Veltkamp, who was not wearing her seatbelt was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries during the crash.
Sgt. Wagener says four passengers in the vehicle, all minors, were transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and hospitalized. Three were transported by ground ambulance and one was transported by air ambulance. The minor transported by air ambulance was not buckled in at the time of the crash. The other three were either buckled in or properly restrained in child seats.
Distracted driving and improper lane use are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash.
