The Cheyenne office of the National Weather Service is warning people about the possibility of strong winds and an extremely high fire danger.

The service issued this statement on Sunday morning:

"Red Flag Warnings have been issued for the higher terrain of the Laramie, Snowy, and Sierra Madre Mountain Ranges from 10am to 8pm today.

  • Vegetation remains dry as snow has melted from higher elevations over the past few weeks. Humidity values will fall below 10% and winds of 30 to 40 mph will occur this afternoon and overnight.
  • Overall confidence is high on critical thresholds being met for the Red Flag Warning areas.
  • A High Wind Watch is in effect from midnight tonight through 12pm Monday for the higher terrain of the Laramie Range into the Foothills across Laramie County and Platte County.
    • Wind gusts upwards of 50mph will be likely during this time frame.
    • An upgrade to a High Wind Warning could be possible later today."
