Tax evasion comes with a high price if you get caught. A Cheyenne resident found that out recently after IRS investigators followed the money.

According to Special Agent, Bryan Thiel, 51 year old, Gary Linn Packer, was sentenced, March 6th to 30 months in prison, 3 years probation and 1.8 million in restitution payments, that following his conviction on tax evasion through the misuse of trust accounts.

“Within those trusts then he paid for all his personal expenses and hid that money from the IRS. He bought various vehicles, bought homes.”

Theil says trust accounts can be used for legitimate purposes. He says make sure you understand what those are and find an attorney who can help you set them up legally.

That’s something to think about as we move towards the tax filing deadline Sunday, April 15th.
