The home debut for the Laramie Plainsmen went awry quickly, as fourth-ranked Cheyenne East scored on their first seven possessions en route to a 45-6 blow-out of the Plainsmen Friday night at Deti Stadium.

Laramie (0-2) couldn't slow down the Thunderbirds, as they accumulated 381 yards of total offense and 22 first downs in the first half. Equally as impressive was the East defense. They shut down the Plainsmen, holding LHS to only 30 yards in the first half.

East (2-0) took the game's opening possession and marched right down the field in nine plays for a touchdown. Hayes Stone scored from four yards out for a 7-0 Thunderbird lead. Stone scored again from four yards out to cap a 10 play drive with just over 2 minutes left in the first quarter. East wasn't done. They recovered an ensuing onside kick and scored just 3 plays later for a 21-0 lead. Shane Brooks ran it in from 19 yards out.

East tacked on 3 more touchdowns and a field goal in the second quarter. After a Christian Robinson 1-yard TD plunge, Tevis Bartlett threw passes of 37 and 34 yards for scores and East added a Trey Herrera 33 yard field goal for the 45-0 nothing lead.

With the clock running due to the mercy rule, the second half went quickly. Laramie was able to put together a 10-play, 70 drive in the fourth quarter. A 35-yard touchdown pass from Grant Holmstrom to Johnny Gurzo got Laramie on the board with 3:10 left.

In the end, Laramie had no answer for East early and suffered their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. The Plainsmen were limited to 123 total yards and only 7 first downs in the game.

The win for the Thunderbirds was the 14th in the last 15 meetings between the two teams on the gridiron. They finished with 399 yards in total offense and 25 first downs.

Laramie goes back on the road in week 2. They head to Casper for a match-up against the Kelly Walsh Trojans (1-1) at Harry Geldien Stadium. Kick-off next Friday night is set for 7 pm. Broadcast coverage of Plainsmen football will start at 5:30 pm on KOWB.
