A shot to clinch the conference title was dashed Wednesday, as third-ranked Cheyenne Central beat the No. 2 Laramie Lady Plainsmen, 1-0.

Central scored the game-winning goal early in the second half and handed the Lady Plainsmen their second loss in their last three matches. No other details were made available.

Laramie had a chance to secure the top spot in the 4A East Conference with a victory. Instead, they fall to 10-2-1 on the season and 6-2-1 in the conference.

The Lady Plainsmen have 19 points and still lead the 4A East. The Lady Plainsmen can still clinch the top seed and an automatic bid to state with a win over No. 5 Cheyenne East Thursday. They defeated the Thunderbirds 5-0 earlier this season.

The match is in Cheyenne at 6 p.m.
