Special Olympics Wyoming is celebrating 40 years during the 2012 Summer Games in Laramie. At the Opening Ceremonies three athletes, John Patton, Donald Graham and Ron Fawcett, were honored for their participation in Special Olympics Wyoming since it began in 1972.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run brought the “Flame of Hope” to the Opening Ceremonies to light the flame and officially open the games. Albany County Sheriff Dave O’Malley and 2011 Inspirational Athlete for Special Olympics Wyoming, Tim Hecker, carried the torch into Deti Stadium and lit the flame.

Competition for the summer games takes place over the course of three days on May 10-12. Check out the photo gallery below, which will be updated throughout the games.
