A Casper resident is in custody after an early morning high speed chase -- with his car outrunning sheriff's office vehicles -- that ended safely in Rawlins early today, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Adam Braun, 25,was at the Mills Police Department on an unidentified matter when he left in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, according to the news release from Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.

Braun traveled at a high rate of speed southwest on U.S. Highway 220, followed by Natrona County Sheriff's deputies.

Deputies discontinued their pursuit because they could not keep up with Braun.

The Highway Patrol dispatched troopers from Casper and north from Rawlins to intercept Braun.

At 4:58 a.m., a trooper saw Braun traveling south on U.S. Highway 287 about 43 miles north of Rawlins.

Braun then turned west on Wyoming Highway 73 towards Bairoil.

The trooper attempted to stop him. Braun initially stopped before turning around and driving south on U.S. 287.

As the trooper pursued Braun south at speeds reaching 130 mph, a second trooper spiked the Pontiac about 17 miles north of Rawlins.

Braun kept going and a third trooper spiked the Pontiac for a second time about six miles down the road.

He still kept driving despite several deflated tires and entered Rawlins city limits.

The Rawlins Police Department took over the pursuit, but the limping Pontiac stopped near the intersection of Fifth and Pine streets.

Braun was taken to the Carbon County Detention Center in Rawlins without incident.

Troopers charged him with eluding, reckless driving, misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Law enforcement also found a loaded .357-caliber handgun and a loaded AR-15 .223-caliber rifle in the car.

Wagener did not return calls seeking comment.
